Bradworthy News - June 2001

Wind turbines, by D.P. Pepworth

At the recent RNLI Model Boat Festival at Bude the wind power lobby were present, pushing their propaganda. This time it appeared to be aimed principally at the kids. As you will see Willy Windturbine (completely out of scale) is now as part of our countryside as cuddly baa lambs and bunny rabbits. How could we possibly oppose them?

We were also given the opportunity to support wind power by joining National Wind Power Supporters Group, receiving a bi-annual newsletter, news of any planned projects in our local area plus information on how we could support new NWP projects, and all for nothing. Aren’t we licky!

I now know for a fact that a second farmer in the Stowford Cross area has reached an agreement with West Coast Energy Ltd. That they will put in an application for a single wind turbine on his land if/when the first application for 3 turbines is passed.

Don’t think this will be the last; Bradworthy has a good chance of being the place where no-one wants to live. If we don’t stop this first application, we will have a long time to regret it.
