Ruth Wade was our friend. She was a loyal, dedicated member of our society, and we remember her with love and gratitude.
She arranged countless events, such as Sunday lunches, Harvest Suppers, and when we celebrated our centenary, she had the vision of a bridal display. It was her idea to ask couples who had been married from our church to return for a service and for tea. The building was decorated with floral displays and bridal gowns. It was a lovely day, so many couples who came said they would always remember it. Ruth did it, and she had a gift for getting people together to work, and enjoy themselves at the same time.
She was equally happy with small informal gatherings and had recently started our Women’s Fellowship meeting again, which had lapsed last year.
Ruth was always alert to the need of “things to be done”. She played the piano when required, arranged flowers, washed tablecloths, cleaned up after everyone else had gone home: in short, if something needed doing she did it. She was to be depended upon to do whatever she said she would do, cheerfully and with no thought of reward.
Her last major contribution to our church was the installation of stained glass windows at the back of the building facing the road. This she wished to do, in memory of former church members. She organised fund raising and she was very happy with the result. Look at the window as you pass and remember Ruth. We miss her more than words can say, and we give thanks to God for her Life.
