Obviously with the Foot and Mouth crisis all around we can only plan with a degree of certainty. If the situation changes dramatically then we will respond appropriately. Please ask if you have any doubts about services and events. Sadly, the Holsworthy Band concert in April has been cancelled.

In Memoriam

In the past few weeks three staunch supporters of the church have died. All three, Edna Belson, Maureen Yeo and Marty Jenkins were well known in the village and each in their own way served the village well. Many mourners attended the funeral services and we extend our sympathy to those who were close to them.

The collection at Edna's funeral was £500 and this has been given towards the church restoration. We await the final figure in memory of Marty, but on the day the amount exceeded £500. We hope to purchase a suitable gift in memory of Marty and details of this will be published in due course.

Please accept my thanks for the most generous donations in memory of Edna and Marty.

I have just heard the sad news about Ruth Wade. Ruth has been very good supporter of the church over the years and especially for her hard work arranging the Memorial Hall lunches. Members of Bradworthy church congregation extend sincere sympathy to Ruth's family and to the members of the chapel congregation. It is a very sad time for the whole village community.

Confirmation

The Bishop of Exeter is coming to Bradworthy on Wednesday, 13th June for a confirmation service. So far nine people have said they want to prepare for confirmation and there is still time for more. No special knowledge is required and neither will you be asked any awkward questions, so if you have ever thought about confirmation but never dared to ask, perhaps now may be the time. Having the Bishop of Exeter in Bradworthy foe a confirmation is unique opportunity.

Methodists and all others

Thanks to Trevor last month for the compliment about me speaking to Methodists. Actually, for generations my mother's side of the family were all Methodists who lived on Bodmin Moor. But for a knock on the door from a school friend inviting me to join the local church choir I could now well be a Methodist. My attitude to life is that I see people first a foremost as a unique person; what they are and what they do in life comes after that. Regarding the differences between Church of England and Methodists, well, I believe that is important to accept and tolerate the differences of history and style, and celebrate more the greater truths that unite us!

Fifth Sunday in April

Since the five parishes joined together last year, we have gathered together for worship whenever there has been a fifth Sunday. On April 29th we are meeting at Sutcombe at 10.30am. There will be no service at Bradworthy on that day, but you are more than welcome to drive down to Sutcombe. If you want a lift please give me a ring and I will try to arrange something.

Foot and Mouth

This issue seems to be taking over our lives at the moment, so I will just say that if you know anyone who is desperate about things please let me know. Apart from a listening ear, I have a list of names and agencies that should be able to offer practical help.
