Well, I don't think that all that much has happened this month! A bit of rain, a bit of foot and mouth, a bit of rain. I was watching BBC News24 (don't ask) who had a report on "huff (note: pronounced as I've spelt it - not as in hoof) and mouth disease (or foot and mouth disease as they call it in the European Union)". No they don't! The only countries that call it foot and mouth are UK and Ireland. All other countries speak a different language!

The RPI, or Retail Price Index, is calculated using a "basket of goods". And to reflect changes to lifestyle the contents of the basket is revised from time to time (candles were removed a long time ago, for example). Last month the Welsh were affronted because the humble leek has been dropped from the list. Martyn Jones, chairman of the Commons Welsh affairs committee said "I think it's disgraceful, another case of the English discriminating against the Welsh. It shows deep seated leek envy in the English population". He admitted, however, that the economic impact on Wales was likely to be limited. "I think all our leeks come from East Anglia" he said! Others items dropped include salad cream, streaky bacon, nests of tables (don't ask!), jigsaw puzzles, women's ski pants and bread bins.
Items added? sunscreen lotion (not much use round here!), herbal teabags and membership of health clubs.
Have you seen the advert that starts "How do youchoose a mobile phone that's right for you? Head for the Link". Next time you see it watch very carefully... why do all the women in the advert wear trousers? Is this some kind of subliminal advertising?
