As horrified bystanders stood helpless, pensioners rioted in a local - and previously peaceful hostelry. Strong men were needed to hold back a respectable lady, enraged by slurs on the intelligence of her gentleman friend. She was barely restrained from an attack, aided by her ferocious dog. The other old gentleman was hustled away to safety by his friends. He was reported to be shaken - and it is feared that on his next visit he will be accompanied by both of his ferocious dogs. He might even sit behind his wife - well known locally for her peaceable nature. She was said to have considered the whole thing 'hilarious': it is not known how much lager she had consumed at this point!
