The Millennium Garden Group together with our Local Agenda 21 Group are pleased to announce that they now have the funding needed to proceed with the creation of an environmental garden to give pleasure to the whole community.
To refresh your memory. I repeat salient features of the garden and how you may all help in it's blossoming.
Providing a range of natural habitats for flora and fauna in a quiet corner of Tuckers Park adjacent to sheltered housing this will be an exciting project for us all.
There will be quality paving for disabled access, raised flower beds containing sensory, textured and wild flowers, a butterfly plant area, herbs etc. Your ideas please! A solar water feature, a central mosaic (ANNO DOMINI 2000) together with mosaics designed by Bradworthy School children, pottery features and willow hedging and sculptures.
These three skilled workshops will be run by professional tutors so that skills you may learn here can be later used in your own outdoor space. Other workshops may follow. Your ideas on these please e.g. bird or bat boxes, composting, organic pest control etc. etc.
If you would like to learn more, please come to a public meeting on Tuesday 13th February at 7pm at the Primary School Hall, to convey your ideas on any aspects of this innovative project.
Looking forward to meeting you all.
These ideas evolved from a questionnaire circulated in the village for millennium suggestions, and a Millennium Garden emerged as the most favoured project.
The garden will be a sustainable, environmentally friendly area, providing a range of natural habitats for flora and fauna in a quiet, undeveloped corner of our village, adjacent to Sheltered Housing. The elderly and disabled residents will be donating a memorial bench, and some shrubs and other plants to this exciting project, will encourage wildlife by winter feeding and will assist in maintenance.
The design includes:
The Playgroup meets in the Primary School, 100m from the proposed garden and has safe access to it across the playing field, so that they will be able to enjoy and learn from the pottery sculptures and mosaics. The Primary School children will gain a vast science, art and craft. and story-making resource. together with organic gardening, composting and other skills.
Brownies can develop a wide range of "badge" skills, Young farmers can learn hedge management, fencing and organic gardening and all may enjoy the garden's tranquil beauty. The enclosed letters of support provide more details.
All ages will be able to participate in workshops to learn mosaic techniques, how to use willow for hedging, sculpture, and basket making, organic gardening, hedge creation and maintenance and other skills. which they can then use in their own homes and gardens.
The garden plan was devised by a group of local people and a team of local volunteers have offered their time and special skills to create this community Millennium Garden.
