We moved here on the 18th October and were overwhelmed with the gifts that appeared and kept appearing on our doorstep. Flowers in abundance, eggs galore, vegetables, including a giant leek and sundry other welcome presents including kindling and logs. Whilst we have been able to say thank you to one or two that we happened to meet, many remain anonymous and we would like to say thank you to all.
Also, our special thanks to all those kind people who keep retrieving and returning our little Yorkshire Terrier. He just loves the attention and, when he is brought back, can’t wait to get out again to meet even more kind locals!
We moved, upon retirement, from Whitestone near Exeter and, just before we left, a local farmer told us to take some spare bootlaces. “Why?” I asked. “‘Cos it rains so much up there that it rots your laces” I was told. And so it proved!
Also, recently I met Ron Bendall, the local television presenter, at the opening of the refurbished Gidleigh village hall. He used to live on Dartmoor but I knew that he had moved and asked where. “Winkleigh” he told me. I told him that I had also moved, to Bradworthy. “Ah” he said, smiling broadly “That’s the village that time forgot!”
And, at least in many ways, long may it continue. We love it! And, again, thanks.
Yours sincerely, Michael and Chris Hickmott
