November sees the start of the coming Winter season with shorter days and colder and often wet weather. In recent years we have had a somewhat mild if wet winter with a late Spring. I have the feeling that we are overdue for a real hard winter of frost and snow soon and wonder if it will be this year.
Farmer Richard Boughton. He and his family came to Worden Farm some years ago and he is a very active farmer. He has many interests from the Parish Church, Chairman of the Holsworthy branch of the NFU and secretary of the Carnival Committee. The family have fitted well into local life and Richard works for the community and writes Farming Matters for the Bradworthy News.
Local Methodists will remember the Ministry in our Bude circuit of the late Rev. Raymond Foster who, for eleven years, was its Superintendent Minister. While being with us he often preached and took meetings at Bradworthy Chapel. On ill health grounds he retired living at Bickington, but in spite of his illness he continued to preach and to help me in the work of Drink and Drugs Abuse. In fact he maintained the Christian Witness and did the Lord's work right up to his passing in June.
Milk prices paid to the milk producer are set to rise. The NFU have set up a legal panel to help members who are facing prosecution. The little red tractor is the logo of farmer's products that reach the stores which proclaims a good quality of production.
Thinking about November and Holsworthy Carnival my mind goes back to the time when Bradworthy had its own Winter Carnival. Jennifer and I very much enjoyed being the now Summer Carnival's Presidents this year and we thank everyone on the committee for their kindness and help to us. Jennifer, who is not one for the limelight, felt it was a good evening and was sad when it was over. This year there were not so many people on floats but everyone said it was worthwhile. The Carnival and it's hardworking committee needs more support if it is to continue. Yes, we are all busy people, but maybe just a little of our time would help.
Husband - Mother has written saying she's feeling a bit seedy. Wife - I hope that doesn't mean she is going to plant herself on us for the weekend. What happened to the boy who ran away with the circus? The Police made him bring it back. What's grey and wrinkled with yellow feet? An elephant sitting in a custard bath.

The cost of policing in Devon and Cornwall works out at 27 pence a day reaching a population of 1.6 million. By the age of just seven most children have had their first alcoholic drink.

Seven Deadly Sins programme on ITV. I know that a number of you watched the programmes which were in the very late night viewing slot. After having been on the programmes I, like many others, have somewhat mixed feelings about the format. However many have said that it was good to have someone putting forward the Christian viewpoint. Way back in June it was a real delight to open the Putford Church Fete, in fact I spent most of the afternoon there. It was good to see the local support given to the event. Many of you will know about the local plan which will soon be in force. In fact Bradworthy has got most of what it wanted and out Parish views have been considered and acted upon and remember Bradworthy is a key village within the TDC District. Neighbourhood watch is active and working fairly well but sometimes to get out the information is a problem to reach local contacts. However by now we hope the list of contacts has been updated and that the local police have had an input.
