The carnival queen Samantha Boughton and her attendants Meghan Dilnot and Gemma Gazzard and the fairy queen Amy Curtis and her attendants Charlotte Fanson and Samantha Orchard have been very busy this summer attending carnivals.
At Whitstone Samantha came 2nd in Queen of Queens and 1st for the royalty float. Amy came 2nd in the fairy Queen competition.
At Bridgerule carnival they only awarded 1st place and neither won anything. They enjoyed the evening nevertheless.
At Bude carnival the fairy Queen float was awarded 2nd place and the Fairy Queen group was awarded 3rd. Samantha, Meghan and Gemma were awarded 2nd place for best group.
Meghan and Gemma weren't able to attend Hartland carnival so Samantha had her brothers, Oliver and George, on the float. Samantha was awarded the Queen of Queens trophy. The fairy Queen also attended.
At Bideford carnival the senior Queen float was awarded highly commended for the float.
They intend to attend other carnivals in the autumn.
The AGM for the carnival is on Tuesday 17th October at 8.00pm in the memorial hall committee room.
Next year will be the 25th carnival since it moved to the summer. This year attendance for most of the events we held was down, as was the number of floats entering the carnival, although walking entries were up. Clearly for the carnival to continue, we must reverse this trend.
We need new people to join our committee. You may feel that you do not wish to join the committee but feel you would like to help in some other way. This could be organising a fund raising event for the carnival, and/ or entering a float in the carnival. It would be a pity if we do not hold a carnival next year as it a very enjoyable event, which brings the villages together.

Please note that with out an input of a few new faces on the committee or a positive commitment to help, it is unlikely that we will be able to hold another carnival. If you already support the carnival, thankyou very much and I hope we can continue to count on your support.
