Bradworthy News - October 2000

Putford news, by Royce Taylor

WI

Instead of the usual meeting for September members went to Launceston for a ride on the local train, followed by a cream tea.

Bus trips

We went on out two annual bus trips with Carmel Coaches on the first and third Mondays in August. The first a Mystery trip down to Cornwall with the first stop at Boscastle, then on to Falmouth. After lunch we went back through the Eden Project and on to Liskeard for tea. After tea we went on back to Roadford Dam and on to Holsworthy and back home.

On the second trip we went to Bideford and then on to the link road for a stop at the Old Well at Tiverton for coffee. Then we went on to Portland Bill for lunch. After lunch we went on to the New Forest with a stop at Barley. Then on through the forest on to Salisbury for tea. After tea, back over Salisbury Plain to the A361 and eventually back home.

Football

The first team have made a good start to the season, after losing the game at home to High Bickington, they drew at Holsworthy, and won at South Molton and Dolton.

The second team lost at home to Buckland Brewer. Then drew with Northam at home and lost in s Cup Game at Northam.

Cricket

The cricket team ended the season on a high with a victory at Weare Gifford after a season affected by the weather. Some games had to be postponed or cancelled, but altogether had a very successful year. There were two firsts on our pitch, the 'first century' by Bill Harper, and the first bowling "hat-trick" by Nigel Molder. The ladies, as always, did a good job with the teas.

Wedding

A very pretty Wedding was held in the Church between Averil Pomeroy and Andrew haste. A lovely Service and lovely weather with the bells before and after the service.
