As you will know if you have read the North Devon Journal, I am stepping down from the Fayre Committee, so I would like to say a big "thankyou" to all those lovely people who have made it possible not only to revive the Fayre after an absence of 83 years, but to see it grow better each year. It is never possible to mention everyone, (and I hope that those who aren't mentioned will forgive me), but big thanks go to all the Bradworthy Local Agenda 21 Group, and especially to Cecil Collacott and Tom Cann because they were around when Bradworthy still had its Sheep Fair, and gave us newcomers their blessing and time to help revive it. Trevor Sillifant is always there on time with his public announcement car, helping the day to run smoothly, and Torn Cann and John Balsdon (and brooms) have helped sweep up after the event. Jo and Dave Foster always ensure that lower village is cleaned up and thanks to Jo for preparing car stickers.
Thankyou so much to the LA21 Group for my lovely medlar tree and the card which read "It is better to light a small candle than to curse the darkness", the very line which inspired me to start working to help develop a more sustainable future (how did you know?). Thankyou again to the Community Stall for my beautiful flowers too, and to Di Balsdon for the flower basket which our Carnival Queen, Samantha Boughton, presented to Mrs. Lizzie Balson, who did such a good job opening the Fayre this year. Thanks to Shirley Davis and the Guides who sell ice cream and help the village in so many other ways, and to the Schillers, Robert Dennis, Bill Coles, Alan Balsdon and Dick Feather for use of their land (big thanks to those drivers who bothered to park in these places too!). We are grateful to all those businesses and individuals who have taken out adverts in the programme or given donations. 0h, and well done to our new landlord for a successful and relaxed Real Ale Festival!
The past five years have seen the Fayre grow and all the hard promotional and organisational work has been done. What's needed now is a few more people to step forward to become part of the Committee to organise next year's Fayre. If you enjoy and value Bradworthy's history and its Fayre, please don't leave it to someone else, or all our hard work will have been wasted and the Fayre will once again fade away.
