Those who took part enjoyed the bingo, but attendance was down.
The dance with the Texans was enjoyed by the few that attended but it was not financially viable.
The treasure hunt was well supported, with fewer walkers but more cars, due I think to the bad weather. We are very grateful to Judith Birch for organising the walkers and to John Sampson for helping with the car treasure hunt.
Numbers were down slightly for the skittles tournament, but it was still a good evening. The most popular event was the junior disco, and we are very grateful to Val Brown for organising it.
Carnival day went well with an increased entry of walkers but with fewer floats. The quality of the floats that did enter was very good; our Royalty floats were excellent. What we lacked in quantity was made up for in quality and we are very grateful to everyone who took the trouble to enter the carnival.
As always Nigel Balsdon and his team did an excellent job in the playing field and we thank them for all their hard work. We also thank Ruth and Peter Wade for decorating the crowning platform. We were disappointed in the numbers watching the carnival, although from talking to different people there seems to be differing views as to whether or not numbers were down.
The evening was rounded off by a free disco with Matthew Cann as the DJ which was a great success starting off as a children's disco but ending up with the Hall full with everyone having a good time. Our thanks to the social club for providing the disco.
Generally support for the whole week was down. Some blame this on poor publicity, if this is the case then we need somebody with the necessary skills to volunteer to organise publicity for us next year. Another reason given is that events are the same each year, in which case we need someone to volunteer to organise a popular event next year.
If the carnival is to continue then we must have some new people on the committee with fresh ideas and who are prepared to work to make the carnival continue to thrive.
