Bradworthy News - August 2000

Forget Me Not, by Philip and Frances Gazzard

Philip and Frances moved to Devon from Sussex 15 years ago to get away from the Rat Race and have a quieter life style. We had spent many happy holidays in Devon and when our daughter Pippa left school we decided to up root and move to Devon. Pippa has married a local Holsworthy boy and they live at Milton Damerell with their two children Amy and Charlie. Amy was crowned Fairy Queen at Bradworthy Carnival and we were all very proud of her.

A year after our move to Devon our son Jim and his wife Brenda decided to move to Devon as well (much to our delight). Jim is now a local builder in Bradworthy and they live just outside the village at South Hill with their two children Gemma and Jason. Gemma was chosen as carnival Queen Attendant for this year's Bradworthy Carnival. So as you can imagine with two granddaughters on the two main floats in the Carnival we were very proud.

Philip having worked for Vickers Bookmakers in Barnstaple for 13 years as Audit Security Manager was made redundant in April 1999 when Stanley Racing took over the company.

We have always been interested in Antiques and our hobby was going to Auctions and Fairs trying to find that elusive treasure! Our dream was to retire early and open a small Antiques Shop. Philip being made redundant made us decide to bring our retirement plans forward and we have only a week ago opened an Antiques and Reproductions shop in Holsworthy. Since opening we have been staggered by the warm welcoming response from the locals and the Public at large. The compliments on our shop have been so appreciated.

We want to be able to keep our prices affordable to everyone, we felt it was far better to make a small profit and keep stock changing then sell expensive Antiques and only sell to a minority. Within our first week of trading we have found there is a market for Quality Antiques and Reproductions at Reasonable prices and as such are looking to increase our stock, particularly small furniture. We will also sell customers pieces in our shop on a small commission basis.

We would like to thank Bradworthy News for the opportunity to tell you a bit about ourselves.
