Recently on television I saw some very good shots of the North Devon and North Cornwall coastline, unspoilt and looking at it's best. What a pity it is that from time to time our beaches get a bad press from human and animal mess along with other rubbish that is left behind by the uncaring visitor. More and more are going abroad for their holidays, mainly because of our weather and what is on the beach. Our countryside and coastline are second to none, so let us keep it in good order.
Hazel Kemble of 1, Greenacre Close. Some time ago Hazel and her mother moved to the village after spending many years in the Woolsery area. In fact for a time she did a first class job as the Woolsery Show secretary. A lady who has a love of horses and country life and it's pursuits as well as now working hard selling at Martins shop. She is always pleasing to meet and is fitting in well to local community life.
Along with other Churches, the Methodist Church has shown a decline in membership over the past year, in fact it has declined by one third in the last 25 years. But in the wider Church the European Church grows by around 90,000 a day. In the Plymouth and Exeter district of the Methodist Church the number of Churches in 1989 was 331, but in 1999 the number was 286.
Milk Link has announced it's Chief Executive as 52 year old Barry Nicholls. There is news of a break away NFU, but many like myself will stay to support the national NFU. In spite of farming problems there is still a demand for farms and smallholdings with a number changing hands at a high price in the local area.
The total sum raised last year for the NCH action for children was £1.2 million. Methodist homes care for 5000 people, that's where I am going one day. Common land covers 550,000 hectares in England and Wales. The Church Army have been working in the community for over 89 years. Comment Safe driving. I return to a subject I wrote about some time ago. Saying that there is a real problem of unsafe drivers on the roads and motorways who continue to overtake on double white lines, exceed the speed limit and jump lights. In fact driving to Bristol recently this was commonplace with no traffic Police around. As one who has to drive around 15,000 miles a year I hope that fellow drivers will be safe and not take foolish risks.

Over recent weeks Carlton TV has given me the opportunity to be a contributor for programmes like The Power Game, The Health debate and other programmes. I very much enjoy working with them and the hospitality has been great. It is a small world as my programme producer, Kate Jackson, lives in the Week St. Mary area. By the way having had a meal with Alison Johns and Richard Bath was interesting as well. I am happy to be able to continue with my Sunday morning slot on BBC Radio Cornwall and I know many tune in each week in Devon.
