Carnival, by Richard Boughton

Bradworthy Carnival Committee held a meeting in the Cecil T. Collacott room on Wednesday 7 June. Chairperson Margaret Coles welcomed the President Trevor Sillifant and the parents of the Carnival Royalty to this meeting.

A trophy donated by the Carnival President will be known as the Millennium Trophy and awarded annually to the Best Local Tableau.

Friday 14 - Junior Disco 7 - 9pm £1.30 Memorial Hall
Saturday 15 - Crowning 6.30pm in the Square and 7.30pm Grand Carnival Procession then a disco by the Social Club

Carnival Draw books are now on sale. Jill Dilnot reported that Kings of Holsworthy had supplied the colour TV, radio cassette, and sandwich toaster.

Samantha Boughton, Carnival Queen, had chosen Gemma Gazzard and Meghan Dilnot to be her attendants.

The Senior Citizen Queen will be Margaret Horn from Sutcombe, Fairy Queen Amy Curtis, her attendants Charlotte Hanson and Samantha Louise Orchard.

The week of events have been arranged starting on Friday 7 July with bingo in the Memorial Hall - Eric Edwards from Holsworthy will be the caller.

On Saturday 8 July the Texans will provide music for a 8pm - midnight dance in the Memorial Hall and on Sunday 9 July there's the Car and Walking Treasure Hunt.

On Wednesday 12 July there's a skittle tournament, with Richard Boughton taking entries, and on Friday 14 July there will be a junior disco in the Hall.

Finally on Saturday 15 July sees the Grand Carnival Procession - the evening ending with a disco with music provided by the Social Club.

Bradworthy Carnival week begins this year on Friday 7th July with a Grand Bingo in Bradworthy Memorial Hall starting at 7.30pm.

This is followed by a Dance on Saturday 8th July in Bradworthy Memorial Hall dancing to The Texans, starting at 8.00pm entry £3.00.

On Sunday 9th July there is a treasure hunt starting from the Bradworthy Inn at 5.30pm for walkers and 6.30pm for cars followed afterwards by a Barbecue at the Bradworthy Inn.

Wednesday 12th July is the skittles tournament in the Memorial Hall, teams of six with a minimum of two Ladies, entries please by Monday 10th to Richard Boughton on 01409241911.

On Friday 14th July there is a Junior disco in the Memorial Hall from 7.00pm to 9.00pm entry £1.30.

Saturday 15th July is Carnival day commencing at 6.30pm with the crowning ceremony in the square of Carnival Queen Samantha Boughton and attendants Meghan Dilnot and Gemma Gazard, theFairy Queen Amy Curtis and attendants Samantha Orchard and Charlotte Fanson, and Senior Citizen Queen Mrs Margaret Horn.

The committee are hoping for a good turnout of floats this year, if you are entering please arrive soon after 5.45pm ready for judging at 6.30pm.This year there will be a cup awarded for best local Tableaux. Presentation of cups takes place at7.00pm followed by the Grand Procession at 7.30pm, which will include Holsworthy Town Band and The Bideford Youth Pipe Band.

The evening will be rounded off by a free disco in the Memorial Hall kindly laid on by the social club. Everyone is welcome so please come in your carnival dress.
