Bradworthy News - July 2000

Bradworthy Inn, by Scoop Mitchell

Mid June saw the take over of the village pub by local people for the first time in more than thirty years. Robbie and Pam Johns, in partnership with Robbie's sister and brother-in-law Carol and Ken Brommell are the new landlords of the Bradworthy Inn.

The new owners

They don't need any introduction to any of the locals, but, for the benefit of new arrivals, here goes. Robbie was, in a former life a farmer, so if you want to talk shop- he's your man. Pam is a solicitor, a partner in Coodes, running the Holsworthy branch.

Ken is the K in K J Brummell, a local building firm. Pam and Ken will continue with their respective businesses whilst John will be running the pub with assistance from sister Carol.

The kitchen has been refurbished and refitted (easy when you have someone in the trade in the family!), the seating in one bar has been rearranged and the odd dead bird consigned to heaven knows where, thus preventing anyone taller than Robbie or Eric Mitchell (i.e. the rest of the world) smacking their heads on the corner of the case. The official opening party was 29th June and if I could remember what happened I would tell you. I do know there was food and music and it was as busy as carnival night, because Robbie told me the next day.

Ben

The menu has been changed and in the kitchen they have young Ben Damon (an ex-student of Mary Mayhall) impressing people with his skills. The only drawback is the bar is busier and sometimes you have to wait to be served, ouch. No need to wish them good luck, they know what they're doing, see you down there.
