Cory's has changed hands. Vernon Schiller has retired and a newcomer has taken over. So who is he? His real name is Michael R Langan, but everyone calls him Bob. Bob the Butcher.
He started as a delivery boy for Kingstons Butchers in Walthamstow when he was 12. After leaving school he worked for them full time and learned his trade. From there he went to Downham Market, Norfolk where he managed a shop for a couple of years. Then he joined the Fire Brigade where he served for 26 years, until a back injury forced him to take early retirement. During those 26 years, however he did not lose touch with his former trade, helping out a friend of his, who had a butchers shop, whenever he could.
Feeling the need for a change, he moved to Bude where he managed the shop for Richardsons for two years. On the 1st of June he took over Cory's.
He is still doing the famous Schillers sausages, including smoked, to the same recipe. He has restarted doing dry cured ham (you've got to taste it!), dry cured bacon (none of this added water stuff), and his Norfolk speciality, minty lamb burgers. Not only can you get your joints or chops there, he also provides freezer and trade supplies. He has taken to the village and, from what I have seen, the village has taken to him, Good luck Bob!
