Bradworthy Local Agenda 21 Group held their AMG at the Methodist Schoolroom on Thursday 22nd June, with Jane Addy in the Chair. Minutes of the 1999 AGM were read and agreed. The Chairperson's annual report indicated a relatively quiet year for the group, with the focus being mainly on preparations for Bradworthy Fayre. The 1999 Fayre was again very successful with gross takings of £1,893.41 p. A number of local organisations were involved, helping to boost their funds, so that after all payments and donations were made, the Group banked £525.79, of which £500 is earmarked for the Millennium Garden.
One of our members, Cllr.Angela Yeo, is leading the team creating the Millennium Garden in Tuckers Park, and others in the LA 21 group have helped with funding applications and clearance of the site. In addition to our donation towards this project, we have secured another £500 from the Torridge Agenda 21 Group (TAG 21). The group also helped organise and run the recent Wine and Wisdom evening which added another £230.10 to the fund. Thanks go to TAG 21 and Bradworthy Parish Council for their donations towards this project, and to both Church and Chapel for donating the collection made at the Christmas Carol Service around the Tree. Further outside funding is being sought through the Bradworthy LA 21 Group.
We have also secured funding for three small celebrations in the village, the dates of which are yet to be finalised. These will form part of TAG 21's Millennium Visions Festival, made possible through a National Lottery grant of over £20,000. The three events are the Grand Openings of the Millennium Garden and Berridon Community Woodland and a guided walk along the refurbished Bridleway beyond the school. The Treasurer Tony Brewington reported that we currently have £2,383.80p in our bank account and the annual accounts were accepted. Thanks were expressed to Steve Merritt for his invaluable help with the accounts, to Derrick Bond for so gallantly auditing them for the last five years and to the treasurer Tony Brewington. Officers for this year were elected as follows:
Chair: Tony Brewington (Proposer: Chris Turpin; Seconder: Pat Batten).
Vice-Chair: Chris Turpin (Proposer: Pat Regardsoc; Seconder: Tony Brewington).
Secretary: Jane Addy (Proposer: Sarah Payne; Seconder: Chris Turpin).
Treasurer: Sarah Thomas (Proposer Jane Addy; Seconder: Chris Turpin)
Our thanks go to all those who have helped in any way over the past year, especially to the Guides. We are keen to attract new members of any age, particularly to help with the Fayre or with the Millennium Visions Festival Events, and future meetings will be advertised on the Parish Notice Board on the Pump House and in the Memorial Hall display case.
Jane Addy continues as Chair of TAG 21, who are keen to hear from anyone who has ideas to help make their community more sustainable. Since they intend to apply for new national funding and since we already have some money to offer as matching funding we could draw down considerable sums for the right project to help Bradworthy. Please let us know of any thoughts on this. Next Meeting : Tuesday 25th July in the Methodist Schoolroom at 7.30pm, to finalise preparations for the Fayre. New members are especially welcome.
