May is my favourite month of the year with its last days of we hope Spring sunshine and a promise of summer days to come. Over the years this is the start of the season when thousands of visitors arrive in the west country for the sea sunshine and if wet visiting the holiday attractions like Milky Way, Kerlane Springs, the Big Sheep and maybe Kilkhampton Pixie Knome Reserve at Putford. Lets hope for a good season.
Les Kinsman is a good neighbour and a quite man always willing to help others. He loves his garden where he grows crops and flowers. Because of ill health he give up full time work many years ago. He continues to be busy in his workshop and is a real craftsman working in wood.
People will tell you that in his working days he was and still is a first class tradesman and did and still does a first class job.
Following the closing of a Methodist church in a village near Launceston the members there are coming to worship at the Church of England where a combined ministry is happening. I wonder if this is a sign of the times?
Last December John Cleverdon the senior NFU group secretary at Holsworthy dies after a long brain illness. John was always ready to help his members and did great service to the local farming community. He was a good friend to many of us and you always felt better with a meeting with him he will be long remembered.
Many locals say that more bus services are needed to and from Bradworthy. Now the 'ring and ride' service from the rural areas into Holsworthy at the cost of return £2 single £1 and with other journeys to Bude being on offer will at least help some. For more details of this service ring 01409 254484.
From adverts in the 'Daily Telegraph' - 'Successful entrants will be provided with seven nights accommodation which they must carry with them at all times'. Also 'adaptable person required to help in bust office'.
Within thirty years less than two per cent of us will go to places of worship. This government had a cash deficit of £9.2 billion in Dec of 99. Because of flu Boots the chemists have had the best trading year ever. Bill Gates of Microsoft is the world's richest man.

Actress Jane Lap Otaire had a brain haemorrhage. British ice women have reached the South pole. Some local courts may be closed. Stanley Lucas is still playing bowls at the age of 100.
Way back in January I enjoyed being on the Carlton 'Westcountry' TV programme The power game taking part in a profile of our MP John Burnett. Ed Boyle and a cameraman recorded me at home a few days before the broadcast. I was surprised that so many saw the programme which went out at 11.30pm what you might call late night viewing. I have recently done a few more inserts for a number of programs for Carlton TV which will be broadcast I hope at a more reasonable time.
While Jennifer was unwell each day I did a tour of the village walking our dog Tom. A local man said we could both do with the exercise - I wonder what he meant?
