I hate February. No sooner has it started than it's finished. If February had 31 days in it every year like a proper month then, by now, Christmas would be in mid-summer here - and in mid-winter in Australia. What a great idea!
Floods, volcanoes erupting all over the place, earthquakes, monsoons, heatwaves, Britain in bloom in February. Yes, it's semi-official, (but the powers that be can't admit it now because they said it wasn't happening - just like 'no BSE' and 'GM food is good for you') we've got a bad dose of global warming. I particularly like the predictions for water level rises during this century - London will disappear under the waves, which will cheer us all up a bit. Still I don't expect the weather in Bradworthy to improve a lot.
I read that rural bus services are getting a cash injection of £100 million over the next 3 years (this works out at £32.5 million a year according to Ceefax, so I don't know where the other £2.5 million is going!) Apparently this is an extension of the current year's funding (£25 million) which helped to generate 10 million new passenger journeys. Simple arithmetic indicates that each of these passenger journeys was subsidised to the cool tune of £2-50p (and the passenger pays a fare too). The money would be better spent patching up the roads, so we can speed along a bit faster.

Which reminds me, Alan Balsdon, burgher of these parts, got done for speeding in his multi-winged monster on the M27 at a speed excessively in excess of 7omph. Simon Downing suggested a Bradworthy News sponsored competition to see who could get nicked 'fastest' without losing their licence. Nice idea, but unfortunately I've already got the winning ticket - at 99mph. Thanks for this month's cover, which was drawn by 7 year old Liam Curtis. As usual the deadline for the April issue is 20th March. So boogie on down to Lower Village with your stories, articles, and photos. When you've finished boogying you might care to drop your stories, articles and photos in to editor, Phil Mayhall, Hillcrest (241748) |
Disclaimer: Words like 'views', 'opinions', 'etc', 'herein', 'blameless', 'get done for speeding on your own head be it' spring to mind and carry their usual import, which is 'don't blame me'.
