I often read american murder books, but this one is set in Shropshire. It is a noticably more civilised murder than our american friends produce and very enjoyable.
It starts with an idyllic extended family gathering at a country estate. The main house is having an extension built and whilst digging out the foundations, a body is discovered under the bar-b-que area. They all are shocked but think it is probably their teenage sister, Natalie, who disappeared 25 years ago.
The main character in the story, Jane, then decides she needs the help of a psychiatrist because she has a stressful job (an architect) also it might help her get through the morbid discovery of her sister-in-law, and the decision the divorce Natalies' brother. Not a good week really.
The story, however, centres around her sessions with the good-looking psychiatrist, who feels Jane knows more than she can remember about the fateful day that Natalie disappeared, and begins to hypnotise her.
It is at this point that the story becomes intriguing. Does Jane hold the key to the mystery? Is this family as idyllic as we are led to believe? A jolly good read.
Happy reading
