Torridge Caring, part of Torridge Voluntary Services, is seeking volunteers in the more rural areas of the Torridge district to sit with people with an illness or disability to give their carers a 'break'. Caring for someone of any age in your own home can cause feelings of loneliness and isolation. This is especially true if you live in a rural area with few if any neighbours.
Carers are unpaid, untrained and largely uncomplaining. It is difficult for some carers to have any time for themselves, to go shopping, visit friends or simply go for a walk - activities which most of us take for granted.
Volunteers can learn new skills from the training opportunities on offer, make new friends and find a new purpose and fulfilment in a job well done. Transport is essential, but all expenses are paid, so volunteers should never be out of pocket.
