Bradworthy News - December 1999

Millennium madness

The last committee meeting was well attended. We concentrated on looking at the arrangements made so far for New Year's Eve.

The Millennium New Year's Eve Party

The celebrations for the whole village will centre round a Fancy Dress Millennium Party which will take place in the Memorial Hall. Families will be welcome but children must be accompanied. The Social Club will organise the decorating of the Hall. Unless any organisation wishes to provide food, none has so far been planned. The Social Club will also be organising a Disco, planned to start at about 8pm. The Social Club and the Bradworthy Inn will both be open.

At 11-30pm there will be a service in the church to which all are welcome to attend. This will take about 15 minutes and will conclude with a minute or two's silence.

The Square will be the centre of the midnight celebrations, weather permitting. If the elements are against us then the Hall will be used instead. A peal of bells will ring out at midnight for about 3 minutes. Old Lang's Ein will be played in the Square. The Social Club and the Bradworthy Inn will both close for about half an hour whilst the New Year is being shown in. Fireworks will conclude the celebrations then the revellers can return to the Hall, Social Club or the Bradworthy Inn (or even, go home if you have had enough by then!). If the weather is bad, then a decision will be taken at the time whether or not to postpone the fireworks.

Other Millennium projects

Plans are now shaping up for the Millennium Garden. It is hoped that it will be completed by 1st May 2000.

It is hoped that a new flag pole will be purchased to put on the Church tower.

The Bridleway is now completed. A map has been produced. The footpath project is still in process.

The Berridon Farm woods will be officially opened next year.

The Bowling Club have completed their flower bed by the village entrance on the Bideford road. Three more organisations are still wanted to plant up the other three entrances to the village.

Other projects have not yet been taken up. Grants will only be available for a few more months, though you have until the end of the Year 2000 to complete them.

Enjoy the New Year.
