Bradworthy Parish Council decided on its response to the proposals for the village. The main items are strong opposition to a recreational area at Westville and to expanding the industrial estate to land at Lew. There are more suitable sites elsewhere.
The Council has taken legal advice about controlling illegal activities on the Moor and about allowing traditional access to the moor. There are to be discussions with the Graziers.
Cllr. Ray Ham has donated a plaque to the memory of Gus Hockridge. This was unveiled at a simple ceremony on Remembrance Sunday. Cllr. Ham laid the Parish Wreath during the short service at the War Memorial in the Square.
Torridge District Council has agreed that the Parish Council can construct a community garden beside 30 Tuckers Park. Several organisations have offered help with construction and maintenance. Further offers will be welcomed. Cllr. Mrs. Angela Yeo is the contact.
Proposals are being considered to include Bradworthy in a new division to include Hartland, Woolsery, Clovelly, part of Bideford and Putford. This is a more compact area than the present division and with fewer electors to be served, the County Councillor will have more time to attend to the needs of the division.
The Police advise extra vigilance following a spate of thefts of various items from fields, outbuildings, stables etc.
There were several complaints of low flying jet planes at night. Few people were aware of this military training exercise. The authorities are to be asked to give wider coverage to areas which will be affected by night flying exercises. Cllr. Ham considered that Bradworthy village was being targeted.
Councillors were concerned, having supported a previous application for conversion of premises opposite Bradworthy Post Office into a bistro to receive another application to include raising the roof level at the rear. Councillors recommended refusal because, among other things, the altered roof level will overshadow the adjacent properties to an unacceptable extent. Internal alterations will increase client capacity beyond that expected for a bistro.
