Kookri Korna, by Margaret Coles

Summertime is an ideal time to lose weight- so here are some ideas that, along with some exercise will give you the figure of a racing snake in no time at all!

The grated carrot menu

Grate one small carrot.

Stare at it for breakfast.

Eat half for lunch - no dressing, mind you!

Savour the rest for dinner, with a touch of salt and pepper to season. Maintain this diet for the rest of summer and watch the pounds come off. If you get a little bored, you may add a little variety by getting a quarterpounder with cheese, large fries and a cola. Lets face it you have no intention of really losing weight have you? If you did the following is a sure fire winner.

Pasta al Bianco

Boil 50 grams of conchiglie (shells) per person, as per instructions on packet. Drain and toss in vergin olive oil and sprinkle with grated parmesan. Along with exercise you will shed pounds. Even better results can be had if, after cooking, you simply watch someone else eat it.

OK a real recipe-

Leeks roasted in bacon

4 leeks
4 cloves of garlic
8 rashers smoked streaky bacon
Black pepper
Olive oil

Prepare the leeks and wash very well to remove any soil from them. Place in boiling salted water for 5 minutes, then drain and allow to cool. Peel the garlic and cut into thin slivers. Cut the leeks in half lengthways. Put a few garlic slivers onto each piece of bacon then roll a rasher of bacon around each leek half so that it covers it completely. Place the wrapped leeks into an ovenproof dish, grind some black pepper over them and then drizzle with olive oil. Place in a hot oven(2000C) for approximately 20 minutes. Serve piping hot with any type of meat.

6 thick cut slices of bread
