Putford news

Chapel

The Chapel anniversary was held on Sunday June 6th. The service was taken by Mr. Robert Lee. There were musical items and singing by the Primary School children. The organist was Mrs. L. Dawe. There was lunch in the Sunday School Room after the service.

Football Club

The club held their annual dinner at Tantons Hotel, Bideford. Around seventy five players and friends enjoyed an excellent meal. The speaker was Mr. Lester Bird. The Player Of The Year for the First team was David Walker, and the Reserves Player Of The Year was Alan Williams. A tankard was presented to Sarah and Brian Adams, formerly at the Bell Inn, in appreciation for all they did for the club during their time at the "Bell". A disco followed to finish off the evening.

Church

The Church Fete was held at Colscott in lovely sunny weather. It was opened by Mrs. R. Craven, of "Cory Mill", who was introduced by the Rector, Rev. H. J. Roche. A flowering plant was presented to her by Katie and Jasmine Taylor, also buttonholes to other people. There were various stalls, games and competitions all in the charge of members and friends of the Church. There was a strawberry tea on the lawn. There was a Whist Drive in the evening. A profit of £750 was made.

Cricket

The club were hosts to a touring team from near London. Although they lost by around 20 runs everyone enjoyed a pleasant afternoon, despite the weather. They also lost at Weare Giffard.

WI

Instead of the June meeting members went to visit the "Patchacott Furniture Restoring" at Patchacott, Beaworthy.
