The annual Pets as Therapy sponsored walk is taking place at around 100 locations all over the country, and we are organising a local 2.5 mile walk on 15th May at 2.00 p.m. starting from Waterford Bridge car park in Torrington, and walking to the 'Puffing Billy' and back.
'Walkover Britain' takes place every year and helps raise money through sponsorship for Pets as Therapy, a registered charity which provides animal companionship for the disabled, sick and elderly in residential care homes, hospitals, hospices or anywhere else where they are needed.
The charity has thousands of carefully screened dogs, who with their volunteer owners, are available to visit people - often the lonely and infirm - to provide companionship and interest. It is the largest programme of its kind in Britain.
Those joining the walk can ask friends, colleagues and family to sponsor their dog or themselves and every penny collected goes straight to Pets as Therapy.
Sponsor forms are available from Locke and Preston and Penbode Veterinary Surgeons in Bradworthy and Holsworthy, Home and Garden in Holsworthy and Southboumes in Holsworthy. All walkers receive a certificate, rosette and a prize, and there are special awards for those raising the most money.
Another fund raising Social event is on the 8th June at 7.30 p. m. at Milton Damerel Parish Hall. This is to be a Doggie Quiz and Video night, and proceeds will go to the National Canine Defence League. Entries can be single or pairs, further details from Debbie Merritt (01409 261404)
