Now that April is here we look forward to the Spring days with the hope of some good weather so that work can start in the fields and gardens. Thinking about the season of Spring some one told me that big bale silage was being made on Atworthy farm as late as November which must be a record. In fact I did see some being made near St. Austell in October, one wonders what the quality was like.
Mrs. M. Westlake, Mill Park Road Bungalow. Mrs. Westlake and her late husband have spent a lifetime in farming working hard mainly on the farm at Thurdon near Kilkhampton. She and her husband raised a family in the years when, as she would tell you, times ere hard. They have given a lifetime of care to their daughter, Muriel, who is not in the best of health. Mrs. Westlake is a kind and caring person always concerned for others and a very good neighbour to us in Trebarwick.
I very much appreciate the Ministry and work of The Rev. Richard Dorrington from the Parish Church and feel that we are truly blessed to have him and his family in the village. He gave me, some weeks ago, a very interesting interview about his life that went out on a Sunday programme on BBC Radio Cornwall. In fact I had quite a few comments about when he lived in Bodmin. I enjoy my talks with him and look forward to working together with him within the Parish.
Many more pig farmers are being forced out because of low prices. The Government are looking into conditions of hens being kept in battery cages. A lot of bales of straw made like men in fields have been saying Dont kill farming. The NFU want the public to back British foods. For farmers who have turned to tourism more grants have been recently allocated.
From the wit and wisdom of Tony Banks MP. I am a vegetarian, however I am nobodys turnip. About Ken Clarke MP. He is like Hitler with a beer belly. About the Lib Dems. Woolly hatted, mueseli eating, Tory lick spittle. On Peter Mandelson MP. He is sweet guy who has not spoken to Gordon Brown for 18 months. What an anonymous Tory MP said about Tony Banks. He must have a large brain to hold so much ignorance. Read his book published at £7.99 if you want more, or order it from the library. Jennifer says so far there is little interest.
62% of all burglaries take place from the back of the house. 87% of all burglaries are made through glass windows or doors. 1,400 vehicles are stolen in the UK each day. Insurance companies spend more than £1 million each year in support of Neighbourhood Watch.
For the past five years I have been receiving the Sky TV 24 hour news which is very up to date and interesting and so far a free service. Now, along with other terrestrial systems, Sky offers up to 30 or more channels to view. One wonders who has the time to watch the many channels on offer and if the cost is worth it. For broadcast use I still use a reel to reel tape recorder, but now I am told I will soon need to have a digital recorder for programme use.
I am enjoying my Honeymoon - Titanic star, Kate Winslet. I will cut rail delays - MP John Prescott. I will stay with the BBC - Kirsty Young. I am the last Lighthouse Keeper - Dermot Cronin. I am very happy to be in Bradworthy - Rev. Richard Dorrington. I very much enjoyed my trip to New Zealand - Mrs. E. Clarke.
South West farmers say they lost £75 million last year. More cash from the Government for the North Devon Link Road. Lottery funds have been given to a local Hospice. SWW to clean up local beaches. Holsworthy to get a new Primary School. Much public support was given to the families of the Clovelly Fishermens appeal.
In May elections will take place for District and parish Councils as well as the European elections. Be sure to use your vote. I continue to have local people contacting me for local housing mainly to rent, so if you are not on the housing list see me now. We wish Bill Hayes a happy retirement from working at Wicketts Garage. Lyn Adlam from Marhamchurch did a nine day walk in the Sahara Desert, raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Funds. Last year Holsworthy Carnival was one of the best for years, but I will remember it to announce that Bradworthys Carnival Queens car was on fire with a burnt out clutch. There is still a need for locals to offer themselves for Special Constables.
