Efforts are being made locally to make roads safer for all and particularly for cyclists and concern has been expressed that some riders do not have lights at night. Lights are still a legal requirement. Having lights and wearing light coloured or reflective clothing is something that will have an immediate safety benefit and is achievable inexpensively. Councillors endorsed this concern and appealed to those without lights to 'see and been seen'.
The final recommendation by the Review Board is that Bradworthy be combined with Hartland with two district councillors. This has been confirmed and will come into effect in 2003.
The Council is to get tenders for regilding and repainting the clock face. Rather than meeting the whole cost from the rates it is suggested that funds be raised by sponsorship.
Concern was still being expressed at the increased number of cars being parked around the Broadhill - these have already hampered the emergency services. The Council reminded the community of its previous request to park without causing obstruction.
With all this wet weather many roads are being subjected to surface water ponding in some cases this is excessive and is causing run-off into roadside property which normally would not be affected. The Highways Department will be asked to pay particular attention to blocked drains and ditches in the worst places.
