Bradworthy News - March 1999

Parish Council

Carol Service

At the first meeting since this event Councillors expressed their thanks to those who donated a total sum of 191.62 to the Christmas Tree Fund. Thanks were given to those who helped in any way to provide the festive focal point and those who assisted at the service.

Policing

PC Beckett advised the meeting that the appointment of a Community Constable for Bradworthy was imminent. He reminded the meeting to ask for the Community Constable or Local Police station by name to speed up contact through the centralised control system.

Public discussion session

Matters discussed included community mini bus; youth club; cycle routes. These items are on-going and will remain before the Council as developments occur.

Torridge district wards review

The final recommendation by the Review Board is that Bradworthy be combined with Hartland with two district councillors. Sutcombe will transfer to Holsworthy and East and West Putford will go with Milton Damerel and the other parishes in the Waldon Ward. This a is not a satisfactory nor practical solution and Bradworthy intends to continue to make strong representations for no change.

Church clock

The Council being responsible for the maintenance of the clock has the opportunity while there is scaffolding to the tower during restoration work to have the clock face repainted and re-gilded. As the estimated cost is £600, ways of funding this work will need to be investigated.

Car parking

Concern was expressed at the increased number of cars being parked around the Broadhill - these have already hampered the emergency services. Both residents and others who park there are asked to park without causing obstruction.
