Bradworthy News - March 1999

Mushy p's plaice

Jennie and me were truly overwhchned by the support and patience shown as 'Mushy P's Plaice' took its first faltering footsteps into the future on Feb. 4th. Conceptual enterprises such as this are never indulged without human frailty allowing the shadow of trepidation to loom large at each and every turn. And despite all the positive noises made by others - for we the mentors the 'What ifs and will its ' of the matter such as 'will it be accepted?' 'Will it be interpreted as a negative influence perpetrated by former city slickers?' 'What if the parking issue raises it head' ' What if litter becomes an issue' and so on stoically stand like rocks of doom upon which you constantly worry that with one wrong inexperienced flick of the tiller - the enterprise will flounder. However, first indications based on customer response, have helped dispel a good deal of concern and helped confirm the fact that this enterprise can provide a positive dimension to village life in Bradworthy. From day one in all our time here we have never been insensitive to people's concerns so for our part we shall strive unremittingly to sustain the positive aspects and support the belief shown in this new enterprise. The people of Bradworthy deserve no less. Our time hitherto and continual investment in the village hopefully go someway to substantiating our own feelings for the place in a tangible form that supports the maxim - 'Actions speak louder than words '. Further to which I was always taught that our most important feelings are best encapsulated in the briefest way. So in the face of such generosity of spirit we can only offer a seemingly bald and inadequate 'Thank You'. In the final analysis when everything else is laid bare perhaps its all we have. 'He threw himself at Jesus feet and thanked him' [Luke 17:16]. Its a big thank you to you all - one that comes readily from the heart.
