Parish Council

Best kept village competition

Bradworthy has been awarded The Douet Bowl by Torridge District Council being the village gaining most points in Torridge. Mr. Frank Howard MBE, Chairman of Torridge District Council, made the presentation at the Parish Council Meeting. At present the Bowl is on display at Martin & Co's Shop.

Precept

Councillors were pleased to be able to recommend that with careful budgeting there will be no increase, next year, in the amount of money needed to run the parish. However, increases in district & county rates have been announced which will raise total tax quite considerably.

Tree

The Council accepted Mr. John Balsdon's offer to replace the Cornus Mas tree in the flowerbed by the Doctors' Surgery in the Square with a tree more suited to that location.

Dog warden

TDC has appointed Mr. Barry Scrutchings. He is available to talk on dogs & their welfare to local organisations & can be contacted at the TDC Environmental Services Department by those interested in his offer.

Recycling waste

The additional recycling pavilion, provided by Torridge District Council in conjunction with South Molton Recycling, is now in place in the village. This should help alleviate the overfilling problems that have been evident especially during the touristseason.

Parish cycle routes

There are moves afoot to get local roads, made safer for cyclists, by signing and re-organising priority at road junctions. The Council feels that while there may be some roads suitable as cycle routes most parish roads will remain unsuitable. However any recommendations can be forwarded direct to the County Council with a copy sent to the Parish Council for information. The Torridge Agenda Group 21 (TAG21)offers a cycle rack for use in the village suggestions as to need and a possible location are invited.

Housing for young people

While Bradworthy has about 35 more dwellings to be built but there is a need for a few lower cost units to allow young people to remain in the parish. Anyone needing this type of accommodation should put their requirement to Torridge District Council, if they have not already done so. This will enable an assessment to be made to go into the next housing development programme.

Carol service

The sum of £91.62 was generously contributed to the Christmas Tree Fund by those who came to the Service. Councillors appreciate this support. Mrs. Ruth Wade was thanked for providing light refreshments.

The next parish council meeting is on Friday, 26th February.
